We offer quality pediatric dental fillings in Vancouver. Even the best little brushers can get cavities, and finding a caring, experienced team makes all the difference. At Dr. Phoebe W. Tsang’s practice, we put child comfort and parent peace of mind first, blending advanced dental technology with gentle, reassuring care. From our digital impressions and laser dentistry tools to a waiting area stocked with games and streaming services, we create an environment where kids can relax and parents feel informed. We know fitting dental visits into a busy family calendar isn’t always easy, but our same-day appointments and convenient Vancouver location help make life a bit smoother.

When Are Pediatric Dental Fillings Needed?

Cavities don’t give warnings. For children, dental decay often appears quickly between checkups—especially in hard-to-reach areas. You might notice your child wincing with cold drinks, avoiding certain foods, or pointing to a sore spot. Visible holes or dark marks on a tooth almost always signal trouble. We often recommend dental fillings after a cavity develops, but they’re also needed if a baby tooth cracks during play or a sporting accident. Addressing these issues early helps prevent pain and infection. Timely care is about protecting your child’s comfort and their future oral health. If you have questions about changes in your child’s teeth, reach out—early conversations lead to easier appointments.

What Happens During Our Pediatric Dental Fillings in Vancouver?

We design our process for pediatric dental fillings in Vancouver to be as smooth as possible for kids (and parents, too). First, we welcome your child with comforts like pillows, blankets, and their choice of streaming shows to help them relax. After a gentle exam, we use digital X-rays and an intraoral camera so you and your child can see what’s happening. If a filling is needed, we numb the area using gentle anesthetics. Advanced tools like our soft tissue laser and digital impressions mean shorter appointments and minimal discomfort. And, of course, every visit ends with a goodie bag.

Five Key Benefits of Dental Fillings for Kids

Dental fillings for children offer more than repair—they support long-term well-being. Key benefits include:

  • Preventing tooth pain and stopping decay from spreading further.
  • Preserving baby teeth, which keeps spacing for adult teeth in place.
  • Restoring chewing comfort, so eating isn’t a struggle.
  • Maintaining speech development, since healthy teeth aid clear speaking.
  • Reinforcing healthy dental habits by showing kids that dental visits protect their smiles over time.

These benefits help set children up for easier dental care now and as they grow.

FAQ About Children’s Dental Fillings

Parents often have questions before their child’s appointment. Here are some common answers:

  • Will it hurt? We prioritise your child’s comfort with gentle anaesthetic and, if needed, laughing gas.
  • What materials are used? Most fillings use tooth-coloured composite for a natural look and durability.
  • How long does it take? Most fillings take less than an hour, depending on the tooth’s location and the number of fillings needed.
  • Can my child return to school after? Usually, yes—kids can eat and return to normal activities soon after the numbness subsides.

Our team is always happy to answer more questions at any stage of your child’s care.

My daughter had a wonderful experience with Dr. Phoebe and her dedicated team. She is meticulous, careful, and wholeheartedly committed. She explained all the necessary treatments for my daughter and provided the most helpful advice tailored to her age and specific condition, ensuring my daughter felt no pressure during her dental care. In addition, Dr. Phoebe is incredibly friendly and genuinely loves children. She transformed the fear that many kids—and even some adults—often feel about dental visits into a positive experience. This is a clinic truly worth sharing with others so they can also visit and experience such excellent care.

Highly recommend Dr Tsang and her team. Dental procedures can be very scary, especially for your little one, and biggest fear is if the dental team is over charging or over prescribing. I can honestly say you can trust Dr Tsang and her team. I was impressed by the patience and gentle approach she used when explaining all our options, answering my list: if questions. She did not automatically overprescribe yet she understands what’s needed to ensure my 5 year old daughter left with the best experience. My daughter used oral sedation with Midazolam (Short acting Benzo that is easily reversible and safe) which is much less invasive than general anesthetic route often recommended by other pediatric dentists first As well Dr Tsang was honest when updated X-rays were taken that there were fewer than needed cavities to be filled than we had expected Not to mention they had so many goodies and prizes for my daughter throughout the various steps of process, that she left as if she just went to a birthday party. To summarize, if you’re looking for a very knowledgeable but humble professional, whom you can trust to not over prescribe yet is willing to ensure your child has the most comfortable and positive dentistry experience, Dr Tsang and her team embodies all those traits above.

Our 2.5-year-old son, Howard, recently started experiencing pain in his upper right back teeth. Concerned, we took him to a nearby general dentist, who, after a thorough examination, referred us to a pediatric dental specialist, Dr. Phoebe Tsang. To our surprise, Howard had extensive dental issues, requiring treatment for 14 teeth through surgery. As parents, we felt deeply sorry that he had been enduring more discomfort than we had realized, especially since he was too young to fully express his pain. Howard had been drinking milk at night since birth, and we were unaware of the significant impact it could have on his teeth. However, after our initial visit to the general dentist, he successfully transitioned away from night bottles. Determined to provide him with the best care, we made the one-hour drive from White Rock to see Dr. Tsang. From the moment we arrived, Dr. Tsang and her team were incredibly professional, compassionate, and gentle with Howard. Dr. Tsang herself is not only highly knowledgeable but also exceptionally skilled in pediatric dentistry. We feel truly fortunate to have had her perform Howard’s surgery. Yesterday, on March 18, 2025, Dr. Tsang and anesthesiologist Dr. Robert carried out Howard’s procedure with exceptional expertise and care. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication. Post-surgery, Howard has been recovering well—he is experiencing minimal discomfort and has been able to drink formula and eat soft foods comfortably. This was Howard’s first surgery, and under Dr. Tsang’s guidance, we are confident that he will continue to improve and eat with ease. We sincerely appreciate the outstanding care provided by Dr. Tsang and her team and wholeheartedly recommend her to any parents seeking a skilled pediatric dentist for their child’s dental needs. Best wishes from Eileen and families :)

Highly recommended Dr Phoebe Tsang! Our 5 year old son was very anxious at our local dentist and we did not want him going under anesthetic for his teeth. Thankfully we got a referral to Pediatric Dental Specialist Dr Tsang, who uses conscious sedation. From the first FaceTime consultation, she was so kind! Our son was at ease and really looked forward to meeting her. She thoroughly explained the procedure and answered all our questions with patience. She is unbelievably knowledgeable and gave us reassurance that everything would go well. Upon arrival at her beautiful office, we were greeted with the utmost love from not only her but her whole team. Being in her care was top of the line, we cannot thank her enough for making this go so smooth for our family. If your children need dental work done, look no further. I guarantee you, she is the absolute best you will find!

My 4 year old son has many sensory issues and brushing his teeth was absolutely impossible, which is what brought us to Dr Tsang. He needed a ton of work done for his mouth to be healthy again. I was blown away by her and her staff from start to finish. She treated my son so well and I was so impressed with her efforts to connect with him in a way that would work for him. He did need dental surgery, which scared me but all the questions I had were answered so quickly and there was a great deal of communication from his first appointment, all the way up to the surgery. You can tell how much Dr Tsang and her staff care about their patients. I couldn't be happier with my son's care. I truly recommend Dr Tsang and staff if your child needs dental work done. They have so much compassion and throughout the entire process I felt like my son was in great hands. I'm so thankful to everyone who worked with him and those I had contact with over many months. This was a very stressful situation for me and it was made so much better by everyone there.
